Get ready, our season is about to change! Funny thing about seasons, we cannot control them, and we are subject to the messages they bring. They have distinct characteristics that announce the change. The most significant aspect about fall for me is that the leaves change colors. My thought is, how can this totally green leaf also display such brilliant color at a precise time? It is the same summer leaf that becomes a new fall leaf, only to die as our signal of the coming winter. So it is also with God in our lives – old, and new, and born again.
Our Father God is all about the killing off of things not pleasing to Him in our lives – and helping us to birth newness within our souls. Only Jesus’ dying for us could bring the brightness of peace in our lives. We are all God’s daughters, each one His number one, a prized possession, with unique beauty built in.
How does God’s “Fall Season” work its way in your life and mine today?
First, we must inventory our heads. What kind of thoughts are we entertaining? Do we have history (either personal or from the word of God in His working with Bible Day people) to refresh our way and lean in on truth? When confronted with the facts of life, are we ready to trust in the truth of God, while we allow Him to help us manage the facts?
Second, we need to acknowledge what we have in our hands. What are those hands doing? Do they give as freely as they take – can warmth and comfort be found in them? What kind of fruit do your hands produce? Is the word of God shaping the work of those hands, even when they become dry and rough from the elements, and the nails are cracked and unpolished?
Third, let’s look at the walk we take every day. Are our feet taking the high road or the low road? Is there ample rest to allow the Lord’s repair work to order your steps? What about those u-turns and forks in the road – when you were wearing open-toed sandals but really needed laced-up shoes?
Perhaps the best analogy for change (actually in all seasons) is how God takes or makes beauty from ashes! During the harshness of Winter, it can be difficult to imagine the coming of Spring’s new beginnings. Wherever our heads, hands, or feet may land – God’s change can handle it. Our lives are really a full spectrum of the Lord’s hand in orchestrating change for our good and His glory – making the seasons a metaphor for what you and I experience along our journey, and how we manage its flow.
During this change season of Fall, I invite you to seek our Father God in new ways. Believe, trust, receive, thrive in His almighty provision, and wear your crown.
