Making Connections

Holy Week – the cross, the tomb, and Resurrection Sunday – is an exciting time in the life of a believer. The message it leaves is breathtaking. Easter is a closing of the door from the past (sin and death) and an opening of the door to the future (life and peace). We have before us a plan of attack to overcome any challenge we may encounter in our daily lives.

There is no obstacle, no fight, and no bondage that is not covered by the tools we gain from Jesus Christ and the cross. You see, the fight is never one-dimensional. It always requires coordination and purpose, using all personal resources.

Jesus endured what occurred before and after the cross with every area of His being.

  • It was a physical encounter. His body was beaten and torn as it lay stretched over the cross, and He was thirsty as his internal organs shut down from the pain and agony.
  • It was an emotional encounter. His heart was broken as He saw separation from the Father, and the sin of men – who He gave His life for, including the very people who crucified Him.
  • It was a spiritual battle. The devil, along with his evil cohorts, tempted Jesus. They sought Jesus’ life and thought that finally it was over. Little did they know that shedding Jesus’ blood was all part of the plan for the salvation of man.
  • It was a mental exercise in strategic maneuvers. He could have called 10,000 angels to help Him. He could have stopped the torment at any point. He could have changed the minds of the crowd…but he did not. Jesus suffered the cross for love’s sake.

Is it even possible for us to put what is happening in our country (the world) into perspective using these parameters? Hmmmm, Covid19 is still a risk, although people are receiving inoculating vaccines; opening businesses and returns to school/work are extremely scrutinized; the exposed hate-evil-fear of many lingers; unemployment, taxes, politics, and public relations are strained… Yet, all of these things have one common denominator – change!

Is change not the total reason for the birth, death and resurrection of Christ? The question then is: Can any of us allow Easter to come and go without holding on to the lessons it teaches? If we seek to increase our level of love, peace, and joy, then we must use everything we’ve got – body, mind (including emotions), and spirit – to wage war against the enemy! There is NO thing that can stand against the power of God! You and I keep Jesus (the Light of the world) alive when we decide never to live beneath what He died to give us. Yes, new life.

Spring also has a way of spreading newness all around. Maybe it’s the sight of blooming flowers, birds gathering and chirping, trees and grass getting green again, or the feeling of the warm sun on our face – almost as if winter never happened. My prayer for you is that you will keep the Easter message with you starting here with Spring, throughout all of the seasons moving forward.
