The Attack

There are a few things about being under attack that, somehow, we get twisted. I know this because I have done it myself many times and spoken about it with many of you who have too.

First, we always think that the attack is unique to us and that no one else experiences it or understands the conditions we are under. Lies! There are only three ways that any of us can be attacked: through our flesh (unhealthy appetites), our eyes (envy or desire for what we see that doesn’t belong to us) and pride (self-thoughts of entitlement or eliteness). We are all fair game, and none of us can escape the temptation of an attack.

Second, we take attacks way too personally and give them more power by beating ourselves up in anxiety, lowliness, despair, guilt, desperation, or fear. Wrong reaction! When under attack we should be taking inventory of what we have left and what we can do, not what was lost or things out of our control. A reflection on how we’ve weathered past storms can give new focus for present storms.

Third, we forget that “the enemy” only manifests itself through people, places or things. The real enemy is the spirit of evil, which is an equal-opportunity attacker that never ceases to be on the prowl for victims. Problem! We end up fighting the things we can see and leave the real unseen underlying factors (emotions, destructive self-talk, illogical motives) free to continue to bleed us dry.

My best thoughts about beating an attack are simple! So simple that we can sometimes fall over them by neglecting their power. Use all you’ve got! Every attack will cease when we take our position of God-given authority and use body, mind and spirit connections. In this manner, we identifying what is behind “the attack” and don’t underestimate the enemy’s purpose – not only to stop us but to kill us.

Seeking this balance of body, mind and spirit provides the best defense against the strength of an attack to wreak havoc in our lives. Additionally, let’s get time on our side. What makes us think that there are overnight miracles and forever solutions? We have to be on guard always, which is why we need a daily walk with the Savior, not just on Sunday or when things get overwhelming. Manifestation of God’s promises has its own timeline that we are usually not aware of. God honors faith, He always answers prayers, and He is never surprised by anything we do or don’t do – without ever yielding His supreme control over ALL!

Bottom line: Don’t faint, fight the good fight of faith, time is on our side when we use it wisely, and the only prayer that is not heard or answered is the one never given.

Faith Forward!

  1. Very helpful to use as a daily tool. Seeking God daily n allowing his spirit to lead us in healthy thinking n allowing his peace to help us thru hard days n dealing with our daily battle by repeating his words in our mind n staying focus ob him.
Leaving things in his hands to handle n trusting him in all things.
